The 2026/2027 Winter Season Gets Underway in the Aosta Valley: Major Investments, New Lifts and Cutting-Edge Technology

The eagerly awaited season began in the Breuil-Cervinia ski area on 24 October, paving the way for a programme of openings across the region over the coming weeks.

The season will gather momentum in November, with Pila, La Thuile, Courmayeur and Monterosa Ski opening on Saturday 28 November.

The region’s other resorts will launch their winter season according to the following schedule:

  • Torgnon and Chamois: Saturday 19 December, with early openings from 28 November and on subsequent weekends;
  • The smaller ski areas: Saturday 19 December, with early openings from 5 December and on subsequent weekends.

Ski Pass Discounts

Once again this season, the Aosta Valley reaffirms its commitment to supporting families and young skiers. Following its success in previous years, the ski pass discount scheme has been renewed, offering a 30% discount on all types of ski passes (daily, multi-day and season passes) for children and teenagers up to the age of 16, and a 20% discount for young people aged between 16 and 24.

Magic skipass

The renewal of the Magic skipass also continues to promote slow, sustainable tourism.

The initiative promotes the Aosta Valley’s smaller ski resorts and their surrounding areas. It is coordinated by the regional Department of Transport, with the involvement of lift operators, the municipalities concerned, the Aosta Valley Ski Instructors’ Association and ADAVA.

Priced at €100, the Magic skipass offers:

  • Access to 11 ski areas in the Aosta Valley.
  • Up to 6 days of skiing, including 3 consecutive days in the same ski area, ideal for enjoying a longer stay in one resort.
  • Special offers with local ski schools: The “1+1” offer (buy 1 hour, get 1 hour free): “Magic Skipass” holders are entitled to 1 free hour of tuition when purchasing 1 hour of tuition at the same time. The offer is valid from Monday to Friday, excluding the following peak-season and holiday periods:

    • 25–30 March 2027.

The Aosta Valley Confirms Its Participation in the Ikon Pass Network

On the international front, the Aosta Valley is strengthening its position within the prestigious Ikon Pass network. Following last winter’s debut, which attracted an outstanding number of visitors, the partnership has been fully renewed for the 2026/2027 season.

The agreement involves the region’s six main lift companies (Cervino Ski Paradise, Courmayeur Mont Blanc Funivie, La Thuile Espace San Bernardo, Monterosa Ski, Pila and Skyway Monte Bianco) and aims to attract an increasing number of overseas and international visitors. Ikon Pass and Ikon Base Pass holders will once again be able to enjoy seven and five days of skiing respectively across the region, with no blackout dates, including the option to extend their experience to the cross-border ski area of Zermatt.

Investment, Maintenance and Safety in the Aosta Valley’s Ski Areas

Over the summer months, lift companies have carried out an extensive investment and maintenance programme. With technological innovations, upgraded snowmaking systems and dedicated safety improvements, the Aosta Valley’s ski areas are entering the season extensively renewed, offering first-class facilities and quality standards for all visitors.

COURMAYEUR MONT BLANC FUNIVIE

The heart of the ski area has undergone a major transformation to improve skier flow and enhance the experience at Plan Checrouit:

  • New “Maison Vieille” 10-person gondola: Replacing the previous chairlift. Earthworks at the top station have created space for 2 new covered conveyor lifts which, together with the TZALY drag lift, provide a first-class beginners’ area.
  • New “Checrouit” 10-person gondola: Replaces the old lift and shares a single boarding level with the Maison Vieille gondola.
  • Digital Innovation and Bike Park: Technology upgrades to SKIDATA systems, installation of multimedia LED walls across the ski area and completion of the summer trails serving the Bike Park.

PILA

Sustainable infrastructure and direct lift access via smartphone:

  • Expansion of the “Leissé” Reservoir: A strategic climate adaptation project increasing water storage capacity from 40,000 to around 150,000 m³, optimising water resources for snowmaking.
  • Maintenance and Technology: A major 30-year overhaul of the “Nouva” chairlift and installation of new access gates featuring BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology, allowing visitors to access the lifts directly using their smartphones.

Crevacol and Cogne

  • Crevacol: Increased capacity on the “Saint Rhémy” chairlift thanks to the installation of a boarding conveyor.
  • Snowmaking: Completion of the technological upgrade of snowmaking systems in both ski areas.

FUNIVIE PICCOLO SAN BERNARDO (LA THUILE)

Improvements to the visitor experience and local services:

  • New “Les Suches – Chaz Dura” 10-person gondola: A capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour, replacing the “La Combe” and “Terres Noires” chairlifts to reduce journey times.
  • Services and Facilities: Completion of the new Trauma Centre (in partnership with AUSL VdA and the Municipality of La Thuile), refurbishment of the ticket offices with a new canopy, upgraded SKIDATA gates, the first phase of winter signage replacement, expansion of the snowpark/funline and a new summer mountain bike trail towards Les Suches.

MONTEROSA SKI

Family-focused projects and enhanced snowmaking:

  • Play Areas and Lifts: A new themed playground in the Crest area of Champoluc; realignment of the Chardonney-Laris gondola route and replacement of its cabins (Champorcher).
  • Snowmaking: New systems in Brusson, Gressoney-Saint-Jean and Champorcher, alongside improvements on the Ostafa2 runs (Champoluc) and the upper section of the Pistone Betta run (Gressoney-La-Trinité).
  • Major Overhauls: Work carried out on the Punta Jolanda, Gabiet-Lago and Laris chairlifts, and on the Staffal-Gabiet and Gabiet-Passo dei Salati gondolas.

CERVINO (BREUIL-CERVINIA, VALTOURNENCHE, TORGNON, CHAMOIS)

Alongside technological upgrades (a new covered conveyor lift and snowmaking on run 6 in Valtournenche; 2 new conveyor lifts in Torgnon), Cervino S.p.A. is unveiling its strategic vision, reshaping Breuil-Cervinia’s tourism offering.

Recent months have seen the presentation of “Cervino The One”, the new cableway project designed to upgrade and transform the entire ski area at the foot of the Matterhorn.

The project involves the construction of two 3S cableways, allowing visitors to reach Plateau Rosa from Breuil-Cervinia in just 17 minutes. The route will have a total length of 5,970 metres, with an overall vertical rise of 1,427 metres.

The project will extend beyond the lifts themselves. It also includes the redevelopment and expansion of the existing arrival station buildings, with the aim of bringing the spaces and facilities up to the highest tourism standards.

The main phase of construction will begin next year and, barring unforeseen circumstances, the new lift system will be operational in December 2029.

Through “Cervino The One”, Cervino aims to further strengthen the appeal of Breuil-Cervinia and the entire ski area with a strategic project combining innovation, safety, efficiency and a high-quality visitor experience.
